Our Story
Where the ocean meets mythology and hair meets protection.
Saltie Selkie was created by Nicole, a New Zealand born yachtie who has spent most of her adult life chasing summer, travelling the world, and living on or beside the ocean. From the Mediterranean to the South Pacific, saltwater has shaped her lifestyle and her hair.
After years of sun, salt and surf, she realised something important: the sun and salt that made life magical were the same forces damaging her hair.
Nothing on the market truly protected hair before ocean exposure and that’s where the ritual begins.
Saltie Selkie became the answer.
Why “Selkie”?
Inspired by Celtic mythology, selkies are mythical beings of the ocean. Wild, feminine, magical, and deeply connected to the sea, they are said to live between land and water, shedding their seal skins to walk on shore.
They transform, and so do we.
Saltie Selkie draws inspiration from that spirit. The freedom. The allure. The deep sense of belonging to the ocean. It also reflects Nicole’s ancestral connection to Scotland, where the stories of selkies first began.
